Description

1,2,3,6-Tetrahydrophthalic anhydride is a reactive compound that is used in the synthesis of polymers. It has been shown to have hemolytic activity and antimicrobial properties. The hydroxyl group on the tetrahydrophthalic anhydride molecule can be used for cationic polymerization reactions with sodium carbonate as a catalyst. The amide and fatty acid groups on the molecule can react with primary amines to form polyamides or polyesters. Tetrahydrophthalic anhydride has also been used in analytical methods involving proteins and human serum albumin.
