Trichosanthin is a basic protein isolated from the plant Pueraria lobata. It has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of HL-60 cells and induce apoptosis in these cells. Trichosanthin also has a synergistic effect on the mitochondrial membrane potential, which is an indicator of cell viability. Trichosanthin also inhibits the growth of squamous carcinoma and reduces the expression of group p2 proteins, which are involved in tumor invasion and metastasis. In addition, trichosanthin has minimal toxicity and does not affect normal human cells.
