3,3,5,5-Tetramethylcyclohexanone is an organic compound that belongs to the class of cyclic ketones. It can be obtained by the reduction of 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanone with sodium borohydride. The deuterium isotope effect for this reaction has been studied and found to depend on the concentration of the substrate and the temperature of the reaction. This compound can also be synthesized from 3,3-dimethylbutanal and aluminium chloride at high temperatures. The kinetic constants for this reaction have been measured using a number of different methods including a constant-rate method and an equilibration method. These constants were measured using NMR spectroscopy in order to determine how they were affected by the presence of a chloride ion.
