Tri-tert-butyl borate is an ion-pair additive that can be used in the separation of organic compounds. It is a reactive compound that is used to stabilize organic solvents, and it has been used to prepare vinylene. Tri-tert-butyl borate is also a donor of hydrogen ions in chromatographic science. It can be used as an electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) reagent for plasma samples. This chemical is flammable and must be handled with care. Tri-tert-butyl borate has high resistance to oxidation and can be stabilized with water vapor or methanol, which will make it less volatile.
