(6R)-5,6,7,8-Tetrahydro-L-biopterin is an enzyme cofactor that belongs to the group of dinucleotide phosphate compounds. It is a cofactor in the synthesis of catecholamines (e.g., dopamine) and nitric oxide. This compound is found in human macrophages, where it regulates energy metabolism and the activity of polymerase chain reaction. The biological properties of (6R)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-L-biopterin have been demonstrated using monoclonal antibody technology in studies with human macrophages. In these studies, inhibition of this enzyme led to a significant decrease in cellular proliferation and an increase in apoptosis rates. Studies on the toxicity of (6R)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-L-biopterin showed that it does not produce accumulation or cytotoxicity at high concentrations
