Tin(II) acetylacetonate is a complex that has been shown to be resistant to hydrogen fluoride and uv irradiation. It is a ligand, which means it binds to other substances, in this case metals, and can be used in the synthesis of new compounds. Tin(II) acetylacetonate has also been shown to have high vapor pressure and low melting point. Tin(II) acetylacetonate reacts with hydrogen chloride at temperatures below 100°C to produce hydrogen gas and tin chloride. In the presence of water, it reacts with hydrogen chloride at temperatures above 100°C to produce hydrogen gas and tin(IV) chloride hydrate (SnCl2·H2O). The reaction mechanism for this reaction is still unknown.
