Description:

5-(Trimethylsilyl)-4-pentyn-1-ol is a chemical compound that has been used in microscopy and electron microscopy. It is a cyclic pentanol with an ester group at C5. The molecule is optically active as it has two chiral centers, one at C2 and the other at C5. 5-(Trimethylsilyl)-4-pentyn-1-ol can be prepared by heating methyl methacrylate to temperatures of around 160°C. It can also be synthesized by reacting cyclohexanone with trimethylsilyl chloride in the presence of base, followed by hydrolysis with water. 5-(Trimethylsilyl)-4-pentyn-1-ol has been used to study the effects of temperature on molecular spacing and fragmentation patterns during electron bombardment.
