Description

Tetramethyldiaminomethane (TMDM) is a chemical that has been used in the synthesis of quinoline derivatives. It reacts with trifluoroacetic acid to give a trifluoroacetamide derivative, which can be reacted with an amine to form a chelate ring. TMDM also reacts readily with naphthalene in the presence of light to produce an excited state, which then decays into a ground state and emits light. The reaction mechanism is similar to fluorescence, but without any phosphorescent emission. The nmr spectra and quinoline derivatives are also used to determine the properties of this chemical.
