Product Information
5-(tert-Butoxy)-5-oxopentanoic acid (BOPPA) is a linker used in the preparation of nuclear probes for diagnostic imaging. BOPPA is an iodinated derivative of 5-(tert-butoxy)-5-oxopentanoic acid. It has been used to label exendin-4, a peptide hormone that lowers blood glucose levels by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. Radiolabeling with BOPPA and exendin-4 can be used as a diagnostic tool to measure the amount of insulin released from pancreatic beta cells after stimulation. The radiolabeled BOPPA is also used to visualize specific organs, such as the kidney, in animals and humans.
BOPPA labeling has been shown to be more sensitive than other methods of radiolabeling, such as the use of technetium (Tc) or indium (In). This property has made it useful
