3,5,5-Trimethylhexanoyl chloride is an exothermic reaction product of fatty acid and amine. It is also a cationic surfactant with strong antibacterial activity. 3,5,5-Trimethylhexanoyl chloride has been synthesized by the reaction of acetyl chloride and fatty acid esters. It has been shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase in vitro at concentrations below 1%. 3,5,5-Trimethylhexanoyl chloride has been found to be active against gram positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus. The compound also inhibits proliferation of human cells in culture at concentrations below 1%.
