Tetrapentylammonium bromide is a chemical that is reactive with the atp-sensitive K+ channels. It inhibits the activity of the channels by binding to the hydroxyl group in the channel, thereby preventing ion transport. Tetrapentylammonium bromide has been shown to rapidly react with human serum and form a fluorescent probe that can be used for detection of trace amounts of nitrogen atoms. Tetrapentylammonium bromide also reacts with dehydroascorbic acid, forming an unstable compound that is readily hydrolyzed back into tetrapentylammonium and ascorbic acid. This reaction solution can be used in kinetic studies to measure the rate of reaction between these two compounds.
