Description:

Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid is a non-psychoactive acidic phytocannabinoid. It is shown to lead to increased mitochondrial mass in in vitro models of neuroblastoma, prevent cytotoxicity by serum deprivation and, in combination with cannabidiol, induce multiple myeloma cell death2. In mice experimental models, it supported neuroprotection, improving motor deficits and preventing striatal degeneration, as well as attenuating neural inflammation and upregulation of proinflammatory cytokines.3 Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinolic acid was also able to protect neurons against apoptosis and mitigate degenerative effects in murine mesencephalic cultures3, as well as decreasing inflammation in colon models of inflammatory bowel diseases in vitro and ex vivo and which is mediated through cannabinoid receptor GPR55.
