- Tert-butyl (2S)-2-aminopropanoate
Tert-butyl L-alaninate is a tertiary amine that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of ester compounds and hormones. It is synthesized from alkylation of d-alanine with trimethyl borate and trifluoroacetic acid. Tert-butyl L-alaninate can be prepared by reacting a solution of sodium tert-butoxide in methanol with an excess of dl-alanine, followed by hydrolysis to yield the desired product.
