Description:

Tricosanoic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that is found in the natural world. It has been shown to have tumor-suppressing activity against cervical cancer and other cancers. Tricosanoic acid has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes, such as phospholipase A2, cyclooxygenase, and lipoxygenase. It also inhibits the energy metabolism in cancer cells, which may be due to its effects on the mitochondrial membrane potential. Tricosanoic acid can be used for diagnosis of cancer through detection of its presence in human serum or tissue samples. This compound can be detected by the production of hemolytic activity and can be quantified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
