Description:

3-Octene is an alkene with a hydroxy group and a hydrogen chloride. It is an organic acid with the chemical formula CH3CH=CH(OH)CH2Cl. 3-Octene is an isomer of octane, which has a methyl group instead of a hydroxy group. This compound can be synthesized from ethylbenzene by adding hydrogen chloride to the molecule. The reaction produces ethyl chloride and 3-octene. 3-Octene can also be produced by reacting benzaldehyde, acetone, and nitroethane in the presence of copper metal. 3-Octene has been studied for its synergistic effects on emissions with other compounds such as nitrogen atoms, chlorine, and copper complexes.
