Product Information

Name:
1-trimethylsilylethanone
Synonyms:
  • 1-(Trimethylsilyl)Ethanone
  • Acetyltrimethylsilan
  • 1-Trimethylsilanyl-Ethanone
  • Acetyltrimethylsilane
Description:

1-trimethylsilylethanone is a hydroxylated derivative of 2-methylpropene. It can be synthesized in a one-pot reaction with hydroxylation and acylation, using sodium hydroxide solution as the base. 1-trimethylsilylethanone has been used to synthesize an enantiopure form of cholesterol esters, which are important for the synthesis of drugs that treat heart disease. The use of 1-trimethylsilylethanone allows the synthesis of a cholesterol ester with a high degree of stereoselectivity. This molecule also reacts with various methyl ketones and β-unsaturated ketones to produce chiral products.
