Tetrakis(2-pyridyl)porphine (Tpp) is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of porphyrin compounds. It has been shown to bind to DNA and inhibit nitrite ion in cells, which leads to the formation of reactive oxygen species. This activity may be due to its ability to form covalent links with DNA or its redox properties, which are determined by FT-IR spectroscopy. Tpp has also been shown to have anti-cancer properties and can be used as an alternative for chloroethyl nitrosourea (CENU).
