Description

2,2,6,6-Tetramethyl-1-(1-phenylethoxy)piperidine (TEMPO) is a functional group that can be used as an electron scavenger. It possesses a high quantum yield and has been shown to have a high rate of electron transfer. TEMPO has been used in kinetic studies to study the reactions between radicals and other species in solutions. TEMPO has also been applied to photoelectrochemical studies with monolayers of styrene on gold electrodes. Experiments with these monolayers show that TEMPO is able to reduce the coagulation of styrene, which is important when studying the kinetics of this reaction.
