Description:
7a-Thio-spironolactone is a metabolite of spironolactone. It is the 7a-thiomethyl derivative of spironolactone, which has been shown to be a substrate for cytochrome P450 enzymes. This active form of spironolactone has been shown to be useful in treating cancer and other diseases by inhibiting the synthesis of steroid hormones. 7a-Thio-spironolactone also binds to estrogen receptors which may account for its antiestrogenic effects.
