Description

Tolafentrine is a drug used to treat chronic bronchitis and inflammatory bowel disease. It is also useful for treating cardiac, chronic pulmonary, and colonic diseases. Tolafentrine has been shown to be effective in clinical trials as a nebulized medication for the treatment of chronic bronchitis. The drug works by inhibiting the release of eosinophil cationic protein from cells in the airway, which reduces inflammation in the lungs. It also inhibits colony-stimulating factor production and reduces systolic pressure. This drug may be useful for cancer treatment by inhibiting angiogenesis (growth of new blood vessels) and inducing apoptosis (cell death). Tolafentrine has been shown to increase thymidine incorporation into DNA and inhibit cell growth in cultured human erythroleukemia cells (THP-1).
