2-Toluidine-d7 is a synthetic chemical that can be used as a metabolic tracer for studies of bladder cancer. 2-Toluidine-d7 is an alkylating agent that binds covalently to proteins and nucleic acids. It is metabolized by the liver, kidneys, and lungs. The main metabolites are conjugates with glutathione and glucuronic acid in the liver and kidney, respectively. 2-Toluidine-d7 has been shown to cause bladder cancer in rats when exposed for short periods of time. The carcinogenic effects are thought to be due to n-hexane, which was also found in the urine of rats after exposure.
