N-Tosyl-L-alanine is a synthetic amino acid that has been shown to have antiviral activity against the coronavirus, covid-19. The synthesis of this compound was achieved via an asymmetric synthesis. The resulting N-tosyl-L-alanine compound showed antiviral properties and is able to inhibit leukocyte elastase, which is involved in the degradation of extracellular matrix proteins. This drug may be useful for treating conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or rheumatoid arthritis.
