2,5,6-Trifluoro-3-pyridinecarbonitrile is a primary amino acid that forms intramolecular hydrogen bonds. It has been shown to be ambident and form protonated species in the gas phase. The kinetic study of this substance found that its rate constant for uncatalysed intramolecular hydrogen transfer was 2.0 × 10^8 s^-1 at 298 K and 1 atm pressure. The computational study found that the chemical equilibrium of the reaction is shifted towards the left when 2,5,6-trifluoro-3-pyridinecarbonitrile is in the presence of tetrahydrofuran. This chemical can also be catalysed by nitrogen atoms to form its corresponding amine salt.
