(2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl)oxirane is an efficient catalyst that can be used to catalyze the epoxidation of alkenes with peracids and halogenated alkenes. It has been shown to have an efficiency of 100% when used in the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from epoxides. (2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl)oxirane also efficiently catalyzes the formation of tetraalkylammonium salts from epoxides and halocarbons.
