3,4,5,6-Tetrahydrophthalimide is a synthetic chemical that has been used as an insecticide for the control of pests. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of malaria and other arthropod-borne diseases. 3,4,5,6-Tetrahydrophthalimide is an ester with a mercuric chloride group and can be found in conjugates with c1-c3 primary alcohols. The cyclohexane ring on this molecule is susceptible to oxidation and may produce red blood cell destruction or metal ion poisoning if not properly handled. The piperonyl butoxide in this compound helps prevent these side effects by reducing the formation of free radicals.
