2-(Trifluoromethyl)-4-nitrotoluene is an isomeric mixture of two isomers, 2-trifluoromethyl-4-nitrobenzaldehyde and 4-trifluoromethyl-2-nitrobenzaldehyde. It has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of medicines, agrochemicals, and other organic compounds. The mixture can be nitrated to give a variety of derivatives with different properties such as acylation or coupling. The pyridazine ring can be modified by substitution at the 2 position to produce a variety of products with different properties.
