Description:
2,4,5-Trifluoro-3-methoxybenzoyl chloride is used in the preparation of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic gatifloxacin. It is prepared by chlorination of 2,4,5-trifluoro-3-methoxybenzoic acid with thionyl chloride and cyclopropylamine followed by reaction with potassium carbonate and potassium hydroxide. The yield of this reaction is about 90%.
