Description:

Tetradecane is a long-chain hydrocarbon that is composed of 14 carbon atoms arranged in four groups. The tetradecane molecule is a fatty acid and it has a hydroxyl group which reacts with the chloride ion from hydrochloric acid to form an ester. Tetradecane undergoes phase transitions at temperatures close to room temperature. The tetradecane molecule also has a large amount of unsaturation, which makes it susceptible to oxidation and leads to metabolic disorders. Tetradecane can be found as a biological product in human milk, blood cells, and other tissues. It is used in the synthesis of methyl myristate and nitrogen atoms.
