1-Tetradecanal is a substrate film that is used in biofuels. It has been shown to be an effective light signal molecule and its water permeability makes it an important component of a hydrogel. 1-Tetradecanal forms acid when heated, which can be used to create sodium carbonate. The natural compounds found in 1-tetradecanal include sodium, carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen atoms. The redox potentials for this compound are ph dependent and it has an optimum of about 5.5. 1-Tetradecanal also contains water vapor molecules that can be removed by vacuum distillation or by heating with sodium metal or potassium metal at low temperatures.
