Description

2,4,6-Trimethylthiophenol (2,4,6-TMP) is an electron donor and a non-heme metal thiolate that is found in the active site of many enzymes. 2,4,6-TMP is a substrate for repair mechanisms that involve transfer reactions with other molecules. It can be used to create ternary complexes with nucleophilic attack or hydrocarbon solvents. X-ray crystal structures have been obtained showing that 2,4,6-TMP binds to amines and deuterium isotopes in the presence of light.
2,4,6-TMP has been shown to reduce azides to amines under conditions where hydrogen bonding does not occur.
