Thiophene-2-carbothioamide is a hydrodynamic antibacterial agent that was found to be cytotoxic for human colon carcinoma cells. It has been shown to be an acceptor and a dipole, which can form an intercalative complex with DNA, inhibiting the replication of bacterial DNA. This compound also has physicochemical properties that make it suitable as a solute in pharmaceutical products. Thiophene-2-carbothioamide is also able to bind amine groups on proteins and enzymes, which may help to explain its cytotoxicity. The fluorescence of this compound has been analysed using UV/Vis spectroscopy and found to be primary amines.
