3-(Trifluoromethyl)benzyl mercaptan is an aromatic compound that has been used as a molecular imprinting template for the fabrication of ethylene glycol-functionalized nanotubes with a cavity. These nanoparticles have bactericidal properties and are able to inhibit the growth of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, which is resistant to many antibiotics. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)benzyl mercaptan also has photophysical and photochemical properties that can be used in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).
