4,5,6-Triaminopyrimidine is an antibacterial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the ribose-phosphate backbone of DNA. This compound reacts with the amine group of a protein or a nucleotide to form an imine linkage. The reaction can be reversed by heating to denature the protein or nucleotide, and thus release 4,5,6-triaminopyrimidine. Carbodiimides are used in the synthesis of amines and ethyl orthoformate from chloride and ammonia. They are also used in the synthesis of chloroform and acetone from chloroacetic acid. Spectrometric techniques have been used to identify isomers of 4,5,6-triaminopyrimidines and assess their cardiovascular activity. This drug has shown anticancer effects due to its ability to inhibit DNA replication and induce apoptosis.
