6-Methyl-1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroquinoline is a compound that belongs to the group of quinolines. It is an organic compound with the formula CH3C6H5CH2NH2. 6-Methyl-1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroquinoline is a colorless liquid that has a strong odor and burns readily to form a sooty flame. It can be synthesized by hydrogenating naphthalene at high temperature in the presence of sulfur. It is soluble in benzene and hexane but insoluble in water. It can be used as an extractant for mercaptans and other low molecular weight compounds from natural gas or petroleum. 6-Methyl-1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroquinoline has been shown to selectively extract isoquinoline from coal tar extracts.
