5,6,7,8-Tetrahydro-3H-benzo[4,5]thieno[2,3-d]-pyrimidin-4-one is a sirtuin inhibitor. Sirtuins are enzymes that regulate important cellular processes such as DNA repair and gene transcription. The inhibition of these enzymes by 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-3H-benzo[4,5]thieno[2,3-d]-pyrimidin-4-one has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in models of Parkinson's disease and cancer. Inhibition of SIRT2 has also been shown to increase the sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents.
