Description:
Ticlopidine is a thienopyridine derivative that inhibits the platelet aggregation, which is an important step in the formation of blood clots. It also has a vasodilating effect and is used as a treatment for congestive heart failure. Ticlopidine hydrochloride (NA) is an active metabolite of ticlopidine. It has been shown to have inhibitory properties on p2y receptors, which are involved in the activation of platelets, and on neutrophils. Ticlopidine NA has shown to be effective at preventing the development of hypersensitivity syndrome caused by aspirin use. The drug has also been found to have pharmacological effects on human serum and platelets.
