6-Trifluoromethyloxindole is an antimalarial drug that belongs to the quinolines class of drugs. It has shown antimalarial activity against plasmodium falciparum, the most deadly form of malaria. 6-Trifluoromethyloxindole is synthesized in a similar manner to quinazolines, but with a 4-aminophenol group instead of an N-(pyridin-2-yl) group. The synthesis starts with the reaction of 1,4-benzenediamine and 2,6-dichloroquinoline in the presence of ammonium chloride to give 2-(6-chloroquinolin)-1,4-benzenediamine. The amine is then reacted with trifluoromethyl iodide and potassium carbonate to form 6-(trifluoromethyl)oxindole.
