Description

3-(2-Thienyl)-DL-alanine is a peptide hormone that has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties and receptor activity. It is an analog of the amino acid threonine. 3-(2-Thienyl)-DL-alanine has been shown to be effective in preventing restenosis, which can be caused by atherosclerosis, following angioplasty procedures. This drug also has been found to lower high values of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in experimental models. 3-(2-Thienyl)-DL-alanine inhibits the binding of GABA to its receptors, thereby increasing the levels of GABA in the brain and reducing anxiety levels.
