Description

3-(2-Thienyl)-D-alanine NA is a chiral compound that is used as a raw material for the production of pharmaceuticals. It can be synthesized from diethyl malonate, chiral hydrogens, and methyl alcohol in the presence of hydrochloric acid and methanol. The optical purity of 3-(2-Thienyl)-D-alanine NA is monitored by optical rotation measurements. The reactants are reacted with chlorine gas to produce 2-thiophenecarboxylic acid (TPA) and ethyl alcohol. TPA reacts with methylamine to produce 3-(2-thienyl)-D-alanine NA.
