Tetraethylurea is an inorganic acid that is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. Tetraethylurea has been shown to form hydrogen bonds, intermolecular hydrogen bonds, and hydrogen bonds with the carbonyl group of ketones and esters. Tetraethylurea can be synthesized by the reaction of potassium ions, nitrogen atoms, and trimethylurea. Tetramethylurea is an intermediate product in this process. The molecule can also be used as a test sample for chromatographic methods.
