- Z-Trp-OH
Z-L-Trp is an amino acid that belongs to the group of hydrophobic amino acids. It functions as a neurotransmitter in the brain and binds to a membrane receptor. Z-L-Trp has been shown to have enzyme activities, such as kynurenine, which is involved in hematopoietic cell production. The hydroxy group on the side chain can be oxidized or reduced by various enzymes and this process is used for converting Kynurenine into 3-hydroxykynurenine. The nitrogen atom on the side chain can bind to other molecules and form protein complexes with them. This process is responsible for regulating cardiac hypertrophy, which occurs when there are too many cells in the heart muscle. Z-L-Trp has also been shown to have carboxylate, amide, and carbonyl groups that could participate in reactions with other molecules.
