Product Information
- 5-(Trifluoromethyl)Benzene-1,3-Diamine
- Pyridine, 2-(trifluoromethyl)-
- alpha,alpha,alpha-Trifluoro-2-picoline
2-(Trifluoromethyl)pyridine is an organic compound that has been synthesized by a variety of methods. It has UV absorption peaks at 260 nm and 320 nm, with a chlorine atom as a substituent. This compound can be prepared by the reaction of sodium trifluoroacetate and 2-chloropyridine in the presence of hydrochloric acid, or by chlorinating 2-aminopyridine with hydrogen fluoride. The hydrogen bond between the nitrogen atom and the oxygen atom is strong, which may be responsible for its biological properties. 2-(Trifluoromethyl)pyridine is used in wastewater treatment as an oxidant to convert ammonium ions into nitrate ions. This n-oxide also binds to the ryanodine receptor, which is responsible for calcium release from intracellular stores. Stenotrophomonas maltophilia bacteria are one of many organisms that have been found to produce this compound
