Thien-2-yl-triMethyl-silane is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of cyclopropanes. Thien-2-yl-triMethyl-silane is a chlorinating agent. It can be used to cleave bonds by reacting with hydrogen chloride (HCl) and ethyl diazoacetate (EDA). The reaction produces an ethylene (C2H4) molecule and a sulfide (S2-) molecule. This compound can also catalyze the desulfurization of polyenes, which are organic compounds containing two or more sulfur atoms. Thien-2-yl-triMethyl-silane has been shown to react with the c-h bond of chlorides, producing hydrogen chloride and amides. This chemical has been shown to have mechanistic properties in the synthesis of ethylene.
