2,3,3-Trimethyl-3H-benzo[g]indole is a semiconducting material that has been shown to have an anhydrous sodium chloride structure. This compound has been studied using X-ray diffraction. It has also been shown to be a bathochromic material and a chemosensor for anions. In the presence of piperidine, the fluorescence of this compound can be quenched. 2,3,3-Trimethyl-3H-benzo[g]indole is used as a fluorescence probe in hemicyanine and perchlorate mediated reactions with anion receptors.
