Triphenylsulfonium nonaflate is a fluorinated sulfonium salt that can be synthesized by the reaction of an alkyl halide with a sulfonyl fluoride. Triphenylsulfonium nonaflate is used as a light stabilizer in polymers and films, due to its ability to absorb ultraviolet radiation. This compound has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi at low concentrations. It also has a high fluoroalkyl content, which may lead to its toxicity.
