Product Information
- Thiobisbenzenethiol
- Bis(4-mercaptophenyl) Sulfide
4,4'-Thiodibenzenethiol is a macrocyclic molecule that contains two thiol groups. It is used as a monomer in the preparation of polymers and has been shown to be reactive against influenza virus and other viruses by binding to the surface of the virus. 4,4'-Thiodibenzenethiol can also be used as a nucleophile and reacts with hydrochloric acid to form an adduct that can be observed by nmr spectroscopy. The thiol group has also been shown to have a high affinity for metal surfaces such as gold and silver, which can be used to enhance the Raman spectra of molecules adsorbed on these surfaces. This approach is particularly useful for identifying low-abundance species such as avian influenza virus strains.
