Tos-gly-OH is a metal chelator that has been shown to form stable complexes with metal ions. This chemical is composed of an amino acid, serine, linked to glycerol and an oxoacid, phosphorus oxychloride. Tos-gly-OH binds to the surface of metals such as copper and zinc by forming a covalent bond with the metal and hydrogen bonds with water molecules. The reaction mechanism of Tos-gly-OH involves the formation of a neutral complex through the loss of water molecules from its structure. The carboxylate group on Tos-gly-OH interacts with the amide group on the enzyme serine protease, resulting in inhibition of its activity.
