1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroisoquinoline is a potent antagonist of dopamine D2 receptors. It binds to the receptor in its bound form and blocks the binding of dopamine. 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroisoquinoline has shown to be an effective treatment for diabetic neuropathy in rats by increasing levels of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and reducing the severity of symptoms. This drug also has antihypertensive effects due to its ability to block the action of angiotensin II receptors. The biological properties of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline are due largely to its ability to act as an antagonist at dopamine D2 receptors and inhibit adenylate cyclase activity.
