Torachrysone is a chemical compound found in the spice curcuma aromatica, which is used as a food additive. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on bacterial growth. Torachrysone inhibits the synthesis of naphthalene and anthraquinone glycosides, two compounds that are important for the production of protocatechuic acid, a key ingredient in pharmaceutical preparations. The inhibition of these compounds results in an increased amount of protocatechuic acid in the organism. Torachrysone also inhibits the synthesis of soybean extract, which is used as an additive in food preparation. The inhibition of this compound results in a decreased amount of soybean extract present in foods.
