Tagitinin F is a sesquiterpene lactone that is extracted from the Chinese herb Tagetes patula. This compound has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful as an experimental model for liver disease. Tagitinin F also inhibits the growth of Hl-60 cells, which are human leukemic cells. The mechanism of this inhibition is not yet known, but it may be due to the formation of reactive oxygen species or by inhibiting protein synthesis. The extraction method used in this study was analytical and was conducted in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid. This extraction procedure yielded an acetate extract with a hydroxyl group and chlorogenic acids.
